No writer truly writes alone.
Many writers have famously said that writing is a lonely profession, but that’s only true of the actual writing, and that’s only a small part of the process. A writer lives a life, then takes snippets of it and translates it onto pages to represent the human experience in a meaningful way. After that she must edit, and, if her work is to have meaning to the world, she must publish. Then she has to get the word out about her work to enough people that some might be inclined to share it with others. All of that is a team effort.
I’m asking you to be a part of the team.
You may be interested in supporting some projects but not others. For that reason we’ll use the “charge by project” model here. Each month we’ll focus on a “Featured Project.” Each pledge you make in that month will go towards that project. You set the limit on how much you want to contribute to each project by setting the amount of your pledge per project and the amount of times per month you’re willing to contribute to that project, so if I’m having a prolific month, you still get to set the upper limit for what you want your contribution to be. I will post what next month’s Featured Project is going to be by or on the 20th of each month, and if you don’t want to contribute to that project, just delete your pledge before the first of the month! You can always Follow this page if you want to keep up on what’s happening in the meantime.
You may not think that your contribution would make a lot of difference, especially if you can only afford a small amount. But it does! You’ll be an integral part of the project, involved every step of the way. You’ll get material long before anyone else does, even stuff intended for publication elsewhere or in limited edition, and often you’ll get things that no one else will see at all. From time to time you’ll get free gifts. And you’ll even get a say in how it’s all presented, if you choose to act as a beta reader. I also hope to offer opportunities for you to benefit from fan work, which I think is one of the greatest gifts a reader can give to an author.
Thanks for any support you do give, no matter how small!
