For a self-published author, Digital Rights Management sounds so sensible, doesn’t it? Many e-publishing platforms allow authors to opt in for DRM, which is presented as a technology that prevents people from copying and sharing your work where it hasn’t been authorized. It claims to protect your copyright for you; and who wouldn’t want that? Many of my new author friends insist it’s the perfect idea. But I’ve been looking into it, and based on my research, my own awareness of the issues surrounding it, and the advice of people who have been self-published for a while, I’m opting out.
